Mille Lacs Lake is a large but shallow lake in the state of Minnesota. It is the state’s second-largest inland lake, after Red Lake, with a surface area of 132,516 acres (536 km²) .

Mille Lacs means “thousand lakes” in French, though in the Ojibwe language, the lake is called Misi-zaaga’igan, which means “grand lake”. The lake is popular for fishing, boating, and other water sports. It is also a popular destination for ice fishing in the winter.
